Man rescued after his vehicle plunges into Puget Sound waters

Vehicle was traveling on Southworth Drive last Friday night

PORT ORCHARD — South Kitsap Fire and Rescue crews Friday night rescued a man who drove off of Southworth Drive and into Puget Sound near Harper Pier.

SKFR officials said three bystanders made initial contact with the driver and stayed with him until crews could reach him. Two water rescue swimmers from Station 9 entered the waters and rescued the man, bringing him to shore.

The driver was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, where he was checked for possible injuries, the fire department said.
