Public comments are being sought for the proposed Westry Village Townhome Apartments project in Poulsbo by Feb. 16.
The project for middle-income residents is located in the College Marketplace area, across the street from the proposed Poulsbo Events and Recreation Center. Shopping and Olympic College Poulsbo Campus are within walking distance.
The city has reviewed the proposal and found no probable adverse environmental impacts. However, it seeks public input on that issue.
Laughlin Development plans 66 attached townhome apartments with an estimated 210 residents on 7.69 acres, plus a 2.3-acre detention pond site. There would be two parking spaces per unit with a garage and driveway, plus 17 guest parking spots. While 116 are required, the project has 147.
The plan includes recreational amenities, such as a gazebo with multifamily barbecue area, courtyard with benches along trail, benches along sidewalks in open space, picnic area, outdoor exercise circuit along private trail and a public trail in the required 100-foot-wide tree buffer on the west property line. Landscaping would be on 31% of the site.
About 33% of the site will be covered with impervious surfaces such as buildings, asphalt and sidewalks. About 3.5 acres of brush will be removed.
While only 20% open space is required, the project has 48%, plus the buffer.
To the north of the project will be a future park, to the south and west single-family residences, and to the east Home Depot and an approved business park.
Its application says restaurants and shopping areas are nearby, along with the Fish Park and Frederickson Disc Golf Course. The nearest transit stop is half-mile away at Walmart.
City code requires at least 25% of the trees to be retained. The plan states, “All the trees which are healthy and not a danger will be retained.”
A city news release says, “This may be the only opportunity to comment on the environmental impact of the proposed project.”
