With no seniors and two juniors, Bainbridge had to be one of the youngest and least-experience teams at the 2A/3A district qualifying meet Thursday in Puyallup.
But that didn’t stop the Spartans from winning the meet.
BHS scored 162.9 points to edge North Thurston with 159.625. North Kitsap was third with 148.525. Kingston was seventh with 91.35.
The top three teams all go on to districts Wednesday.
In the individual competition, Bainbridge’s standout freshman Jade Bereman was second in the all-around with 35 points. BHS co-captain Avery Gray was fourth in the all-around at 34.275. Skylar MacDonald of Central Kitsap was sixth and qualified for districts, Grace Reeb of BHS seventh, Jordyn Lovett of NK eighth, Arabelle Miller of NK 14th, co-captain Elizabeth Olliffe of BHS 15th, Rachel Bruns of NK 16th, Wren Mason-Todd of NK 17th and Elli Falen was Kingston’s top finisher at 31st.
Reeb was the only Spartan with an individual victory, in the floor exercise with a score of 9.525. Gray tied for second with a score of 9.45. Lovett placed fourth with a 9.425, Bereman sixth with a 9.25 and MacDonald ninth with a 9.0.
Also finishing in the top 20 were Bruns, Phare Deitrich and Sofia Fleishmann of BHS, Kelsey Derr of NK, Miller, Olliffe and Mason-Todd. Analee McDonald was the top finisher for Kingston. She qualified for districts in the event along with Falen.
Bereman was the top local finisher in the balance beam, tying for second with a score of 9.175. MacDonald was fourth with an 8.7, Lovett fifth with an 8.65, Gray tying for sixth with an 8.5 and Mason-Todd at eighth with an 8.25.
Other locals in the top 20 were: Reeb, Elizabeth Pickle and Kate Hansen of BHS, Derr and Olliffe. Perl Anderson was the top placer for the Bucs, and qualified for districts in the event.
Gray finished second in the uneven bars with a score of 8.225 points. Bereman was third at 8.175, MacDonald fifth at 8.125, Reeb sixth at 8.0 and Lovett ninth at 7.2.
Also in the top 20 were: Miller, Olliffe, Bruns, Mason-Todd, Hansen and Sydney Oswald of BHS. Kingston’s top finisher was Falen. Also moving forward to districts in the event is her teammate Fiona Schmid.
The top local finisher in the vault was Bereman, placing sixth with a score of 8.4. Lovett was right behind her with an 8.35. Miller rounded out the top 10 with an 8.25.
Others finishing in the top 20 were: Reeb, Gray, MacDonald, Deitrich, Lovett, Shawna Smith of BHS and Olliffe. Falen again was Kingston’s top finisher and will go to districts along with Schmid.
