Melanie Starry Mohler, 64, of Poulsbo, WA, wife of 43 years to Mr. Kendall Mohler, passed away January 25, 2022, with Kendall and their son Justin at her side. Born on January 5, 1958 in Baltimore, MD to Donn and Letty (Gibbs) Starry, she and her family lived in Poulsbo, WA for over 30 years. She graduated from Fort Knox High School in KY and attended the University of Kansas and Wichita State University. She married Kendall Mohler on July 8, 1978 in Kansas City and embarked on a career journey with Ken that took them across the country to Iowa, Texas, Florida and Indiana, before finally landing in Seattle and Poulsbo. Melanie was a loving wife and mother and a devoted homemaker who knew no strangers, spreading her happiness and love of life throughout her time here with us. She also treasured her many friends and neighbors, with special attention to Justin and his schoolmates, and Buster (the family pup for many years). She enjoyed being a warm, welcoming hostess with friends, family, and civic organizations. She applied her energy and commitment to serving others in many ways, perhaps most notably as a dedicated member and president of the North Kitsap School Board. In her spare time, Melanie enjoyed being active in childhood education, singing, cooking, knitting, traveling, and collecting nutcrackers, a passion from her childhood in Germany. Preceded in death by her parents, Gen. Donn Starry (Ret.) and Mrs. Leatrice (Gibbs) Starry, Melanie’s memory will live on with her husband of 43 years, Kendall Mohler of Poulsbo; son, Justin Mohler and his wife Nadia of Seattle, WA, with their very special granddaughter, Zoe; and brothers, Col. Mike Starry (Ret.) and his wife Gail of Williamsburg, VA, Mr. Paul Starry and his wife Emily of Hilton Head, SC; and sister, Ms. Melissa Starry of Odenton, MD.
