I was pleased to hear that a roundabout on the west side of the Agate Pass Bridge is “not a done deal” (page A1, May 17 Herald).
I do not agree very often with our Mayor of Poulsbo, but in this case I do: A roundabout at this location does not make sense and will not solve the problem.
Although not a regular commuter, I have unfortunately had the displeasure of traveling through Bainbridge Island during heavy ferry commuter traffic periods. The delay at this intersection is not really any more significant than the delays which occur at the four other traffic lights on Bainbridge. The only real solution to improve the traffic flow from Winslow to Poulsbo would be to construct overpasses at these intersections to allow for the non-impaired, free flow of traffic while effectively facilitating the entering and exit of vehicles to and from adjacent crossroads.
To spend —- what did I hear, $750,000? — to study the issue at the bridge site is a waste of time and money and, since I have made the experienced recommendation for a practical solution, I’d be happy to accept half of this amount from Sen. Rolfes’ funding as compensation and thereby save the state $375,000.
