Alan “Al” Brown

October 11, 1942 - December 26, 2021

Alan (Al) Brown, long time resident of Poulsbo, WA passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at the age of 79.

Al is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon; his son, Curtis Brown and his wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Trevor and Zachary Brown; and his daughter Whitney Brown. He is preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Morgan.

Al was born on October 11, 1942 in Portland, Oregon to Bynum and Janice Brown. He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1960 and went on to get his Associate’s degree at Peninsula Junior College in 1962 then on to Washington State University. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in May of 1970. On May 29 th , 1965 he married Sharon Miller at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Beaverton, Oregon and began their life together in Oregon City. Al began his career of 38 years in forestry in 1964 with Crown Zellerbach. In 1967 they moved to Arcata, California where their first child, Curtis was born. Al and Sharon returned to Port Angeles where their second child, Whitney was born. The family relocated to Poulsbo, Washington in 1984 where Al concluded the last 18 years with Pope & Talbot in Port Gamble.

Al was an avid trip planner. The family spent summers on road trips from campground to campground through Yellowstone, Glacier National Park and the Grand Tetons and a trip to Australia and New Zealand checked off a long awaited item on his bucket list. Into retirement, Al and Sharon found an interest in cruising with family and the many friends they met throughout their lives together. The Brown family joined First Lutheran Church in 1985. Al became active serving on the “Monday Morning Men” Ministry and volunteering on various church groups.

In 2010, Al received a “gift of life”. A former church member, Judy Fuhrer, graciously donated one of her kidneys, a gift which gave him 10 years more of quality life.

Al’s life centered on his family and friends. He loved sports, playing cribbage and spending time with Sharon. A celebration of Al’s life will be held on Sunday, May 29 th 2022, 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo, WA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation, First Lutheran Church or The Arbor Day Foundation in his memory.
