A 33-year-old Poulsbo woman was arrested after her 2-year-old boy overdosed on fentanyl last week before being revived with Narcan at a hospital.

The boy woke up June 13 and seemed fine, his mom said, but later his body became stiff, his eyes wouldn’t cross, and he was unresponsive, police documents state. The mother transported the child to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale where he received Narcan and became alert.

The child was transferred to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma and was placed on a Narcan drip. Lab results showed the boy tested positive for fentanyl.

The mother is known by law enforcement to use narcotics from numerous contacts with her, documents read. She reportedly had been using Suboxone, a drug often given to opiate addicts to help with withdrawals documents say. The drug poses a hazard to children and can result in death.

Significant treatment was provided to the child in order to recover. Given the boy’s age and development, it cannot be determined if there will be any lasting effects, per documents. It was not mentioned how the child accessed the fentanyl.

The mother was booked Thursday into Kitsap County Jail in Port Orchard on suspicion of first-degree criminal mistreatment and is being held on $50,000 bail.
