The Olympic boys basketball team defeated the Kingston Buccaneers 49-46 on the road. The Trojans had a slow start after arriving nearly 30 minutes late to the 7:30 pm tip-off.

Therefore, Kingston’s Cash Hubbard nailed his first two three-point shots to boost the Bucs lead to 8-0 in the first quarter. However, Olympic finally responded a few minutes later when Sean Clegg picked up a couple of steals and layups to make it 10-4.

Although the Trojans’ offense began to click, Kingston held onto a 15-7 lead after the first quarter. Clegg and Kingston’s Noah Walter started the scoring in the second quarter with a three-pointer each.

Hubbard added a few more threes to his stat sheet to make it 21-12. However, Hubbard’s night began to slow down after starting 4-for-6 from the three-point line.

Instead, Olympic’s offense began to take the momentum away. Jack Wallace led the Trojans on an 8-2 run to end the half and give Kingston only a 23-20 lead.

Olympic took its first lead of the night with two minutes left in the third quarter, 35-34. However, Seth Fortenbacher drilled a three-point buzzer-beater to give the Bucs a 37-35 lead in the fourth.

Kingston and Olympic battled back and forth in the fourth quarter as the teams had four lead changes and three ties.

The game came down to the final minute as Noah Walter gave Kingston a 46-44 lead with 50 seconds left. Trojans’ Malakai Quinene hit a three-pointer with 34 seconds left to take the 47-46 lead.

The Buccaneers had two chances to either take the lead or tie but Rhys Hernandez and Dakota Standley’s shots bounced off the rim and into Olympic’s hands.
