If you’re wondering what to do with that Christmas tree, numerous fundraisers and businesses recycle them from Bainbridge Island to Olalla in Kitsap County.

On Jan. 1, new fees went into effect at the county waste facilities. Check the county’s website for new prices for 2023. Each garbage can is $14 in Hansville, Olalla and Silverdale, for example, while the minimum fee per load at the Olympic View Transfer Station is $41.

You can cut costs by reducing the size of your curbside garbage can from 64 gallon to 35 gallon or smaller. You may also be able to cut back on your service from weekly to every other week or even monthly. Contact your service provider to check out your options.

In its first year, Kitsap had one of the top recycling paint programs in the state, ranking second with almost 17,000 gallons. Over 580,000 gallons were collected statewide. Almost 90 percent of that was able to be recycled. Find your local site at paintcare.org/drop-offsites.
