Make your Valentine’s extra-special with a dynamic performance from award-winning local singer/songwriter Eugenie Jones!
For Valentines at the Roxy, the Kitsap County artist brings her jazz stylings to the historic Roxy Theatre in downtown Bremerton on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Presented by the Collective Visions Art Gallery and Bright Ideas Marketing, the show will feature many of the jazz standards you know and love, as well as original compositions from this talented artist.
“The show will include not only vintage jazz, R&B and blues covers, but my own original music as well,” Jones says.
Jones, who first started performing in 2011, is also known for her long-running fitness and wellness column in the Kitsap Sun, and her roles as a non-profit marketing executive and the founding board president of the Music Discovery Center.
“I think many people might know me for my other careers,” Jones says. “I’ve been performing and recording for some time now, and I think people are now becoming aware that I’m also making a name for myself as a jazz musician, too!”
Jones has received numerous awards for her recordings, including her latest release Players, ranked No. 30 on Jazz Week’s Top 100 Releases for 2022, and No. 7 on the Jazz Week Top 50 charts.
Jones has certainly been recognized in the industry for her recordings – her 2013 debut release Black Lace Blue Tears was awarded 3.5 out of 4 stars by DownBeat Magazine, and was the first vocal release to be awarded Earshot Jazz’s Recording of the Year award.
Her 2015 release Come Out Swingin’ also earned Jones Earshot Jazz’s Vocalist of the Year Award, but her highest accomplishments are for her current release, Players.
Putting her past experience to work, Jones devised a unique strategy for Players, recording all over the US – Seattle, Chicago, Dallas and New York – with a different set of master artists in each city.
“We had a whole gamut of amazing musicians join us on this recording – a total of 32 A-list artists bringing their talents to 10 original pieces and five jazz standards,” Jones says.
Players gained an international ranking of No. 30 on Jazz Week’s Top 100 Releases for 2022, and at the time of its release, also reached No. 7 on the Jazz Week Top 50 charts, and was a contender for the 2022 Grammys.
For Saturday night’s show, Jones will be joined on stage by Nick Allison on the grand piano, Shahan Kilaghbian on upright bass, Jean Chaumont on guitar and Steve Bentley on drums.
