Martin Sigmont Hagenson III passed away peacefully in Seattle, Washington on January 26th after a very long and brave battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Marty was born February 16, 1943 in Butte, Montana to Martin Hagenson Jr and Nettie Mae (Johnson) Hagenson. He attended St. Ann’s grade school, Butte Central Catholic High School, Montana School of Mines and graduated from Carroll College in Helena Montana. He later attended Mt. St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa and later still graduated from the University of Washington with a Masters of Social Work. He was an early advocate and adopter of hypnosis and biofeedback as therapeutic tools.
Marty played basketball at Butte Central and developed a lifelong love of golf and tennis, playing continuously until the last couple years of his life. He resided in Poulsbo, Washington for many decades where he found great satisfaction working at nearby Navy Sub Base Bangor as a Family and Childhood Abuse Counselor. He was a voracious reader and lifelong learner and enjoyed playing classical piano and guitar and entertaining family and friends with his soulful songs and poems. As a regular member of St. Olaf’s Catholic Parish in Poulsbo, he spent many hours in prayerful meditation.
Preceded in death by his parents, Martin Hagenson Jr and Nettie Mae (Johnson) Hagenson and survived by his brother Harold (Hal), niece Holly, nephews Joree, Griffen and Cameron as well as many close cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 3rd, at St. Ann’s Church in Butte Montana followed by interment @ Mountain View Cemetery with reception to follow.
