Stella lived on Bainbridge for 60 years and never tired of the view from her living room of shore birds, seals, otters and the ever-larger ships in the distance. After her husband Norman died in 2007, Stella lived on her own till she was 95, only moving to assisted living for the last few months of her life. She was blessed with wonderful friends and neighbors who helped her live independently as long as possible.

Stella was born in New York City, the first child of Greek immigrants. She was an outstanding student, receiving a full scholarship to Smith College of Social Work. She met Norman at Cincinnati General Hospital where he was completing his residency in psychiatry. They moved to Seattle in 1949. When their youngest child, Bill, was diagnosed with severe developmental disabilities, they were dismayed by the lack of services. Unwilling to put him in an institution, Stella instead put her social work degree into practice. She and Norman founded Parkview, the first family style home for children with developmental disabilities. Stella served as the director for the first seven years. Today, Parkview is a thriving non-profit providing affordable housing and other services to hundreds of clients.

Stella was a lifelong learner who was passionate about gardening, art, travel and culture. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman and her sons James and Bill. She is survived by her sister Stacey and her son Stephen, who was with her when she peacefully passed away. After a long, eventful life, Stella said she was ready to go.
