Construction on the new Kingston Regional Stormwater Facility is set to take place this fall.

It will include installation of six water-quality units and upgraded stormwater conveyance that will treat roughly 65 acres of polluted stormwater runoff.

It also will allow developers to pay a fee to connect to the facility, Kitsap County documents read. The project will also reconstruct a portion of Ohio Avenue and add sidewalks as recommended by the Kingston Complete Streets Study. The project is expected to take 60 working days.

The county’s project team has analyzed the potential impacts on residents, adjacent businesses and first responders. It has been determined that providing access through the work zone on Ohio during construction would not only lengthen the duration of work but would also result in increased cost relative to closing the road.

Therefore, the alternative is to temporarily close Ohio between Central Avenue and Main Street (approximately 210 feet) to all traffic throughout the construction period, per documents. The closure period would start no earlier than Sept. 5 and end no later than Dec. 31. A detour route will be established for pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
