Bainbridge, Central Kitsap and South Kitsap track and field teams competed at Kent-Meridian High School for their West Central District meet.

The top seven in each event qualified for state.

Bainbridge qualified seven for state, with Mairin O’Brien and Claire Hungerford both competing in two events. CK qualified 16, including three relay teams. Blake Reynolds and Jada Kopp will compete at state in three events each, while Andra and Taylor Palmer both will compete in two. SK qualified six for state, with Grace Degarimore placing in three events, and Jefferson Smith and Lauren Laws two each.

The Spartans first qualifiers were a pair of pole vaulters on the boys side. Yafei Shou won the event with a personal record of 14 feet. Jonas Michael tied for fourth with 12-0.

Amare Clark squeaked into seventh place in the triple jump with a personal record of 42 feet, 5 inches. On the girls side, O’Brien finished seventh in the 1600 with a time of 5 minutes, 4.09 seconds. She also qualified in the 3200 after finishing fifth in 11:01.23.

Hungerford finished third in the 100 hurdles with a personal record of 16.09 seconds. She finished third in the 300 hurdles, too, in a school record of 46.16. Sabine Hartenstine finished seventh with 48.15.

Ella McRitchie finished second in the pole vault, breaking her school record with a mark of 14 feet.

Central Kitsap’s first state qualifier was Reynolds, finishing fifth in the 1600 in 4:19.49. He also finished fourth in the 3200 in a time of 9:26.26. Kopp finished second in the 100-meter dash with time of 12.58 seconds and was first in the 200-meter dash in 25.58. Audra Palmer finished fourth in the 1600 in 5:02.29. Taylor Palmer finished fifth in the 800 event with 2:17.88.

The Cougars had three relay teams qualify for state. Sophia Mills, Maleia Dayao, Savannah Fourier and Kopp finished the 4×100 in fourth with 50.53. In addition, Jayson Davis-Samuels, Charles Guy, Reynolds and Dakari Moten finished fourth in the 4×400 with 3:31.45. Lastly, Maleia Dayao, Camryn Bishoff, and the Palmers finished sixth in the 4×400 with 4:13.39.

Roderick Schenk won the javelin competition easily with 203-11, 25 feet longer than the next opponent. Savannah Fourier is the final Cougar heading to state. She won the high jump with 5-2.

South Kitsap will be sending a few athletes to state, too. Jefferson Smith finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:57.60 and seventh in the 1600 in 4:27.

Lauren Laws finished fourth on the girls side in 5:05.01. However, she won the 800-meter event in 2:14.23. Cheyanne Barker finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with 12.74.

Brendan Bourke, Riley Smith and Grace Degarimore will represent the Wolves in the throwing events. Bourke won the discus with 158-10. Smith finished fifth in the shot put with 47-5. Degarimore finished first in the shot put with 37-6.25 and third in the discus and second in the javelin with 110-10 and 119-6. Rylee Fibert finished third in the javelin with 115-08.

2A state qualifiers

In 2A the top six qualify for state. North Kitsap and Bremerton will send 14 each to state, Olympic seven and Kingston three. Logan Sloman leads NK competing in four events with Alec Ibarra and Owen Wilkinson in three each. Salix Wartes-Kahl will compete in two, winning both events at district. Bremerton has seven athletes who will each compete in two events at state, and Kingston has two. For Olympic, N’Dya Hudson will compete in four and Leyna Vickers three.

For North Kitsap, Sloman finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a record of 11.23 and sixth in the 200-meter sprint in 22.82. Ibarra finished fifth in the 400 meters in 51.86 and second in the 800 meters in 1:58.11. Matthew Fee finished sixth in the 800 with 2:00.24.

The Vikings have three hurdlers heading to state. Tenichi Gordon finished second in the 110 hurdles in 15.66, Wilkinson finished third in 15.86 and Carter Braund sixth in 16.79.

Gordon and Wilkinson also finished third and fourth in the 300 hurdles in 42.21 and 42.99. Benen Lawler, Wilkinson, Sloman and Cohen Meis finished fourth in the 4×100 relay in 44.46. Sloman and Lawler joined Ibarra and Fee for the 4×400, finishing third in 3:30.05.

The Vikings showed their strength in the throwing events as well. James Rebman and Lincoln Gould finished third and fourth in the javelin with tosses of 148-03 and 144-03. Ethann White finished third in the triple jump with 42-04.

Julie Castillejo finished fifth in the 400 meters in 1:03.13. Wartes-Kahl won the 800 and 1600 with times of 2:19.83 and 5:11.53.

Kingston’s Lucas Lenz and Leighton Menge qualified in all of their events. Lenz finished third in the 1600 in 4:27.58 and fifth in the 3200 in 9:47.70. Menge finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in 16.53 seconds and fifth in the long jump 16-1.25. Taizha Franklin will be the third and final Buc heading to state. She finished fifth in the high jump with 4-8.

Bremerton’s DShawn Harvison just qualified for state with a sixth-place finish and time of 11.25 in the 100-meter dash. He also finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.55 seconds. Isaiah Cadengo flashed his speed, finishing second in the 400 meters in 51.04. Dallin Anderson won the 800 event with 1:56.72.

Enzo Alonso Fernandez finished second in the 1600 in 4:27.21 and sixth in the 3200 in 9:49.21. Isaiah Kroeker, Anderson, Klega and Cadengo finished second in the 4×400 relay in 3:29.72.

Ivan Picazo continued to dominate in the throwing events. He won the shot put with 50-6 and was sixth in the discus with 125-1. Duncan LeVitt finished third in the high jump with 5-10. On the girls side, Cecilia Powell finished third in the 400-meter event with 1:00.40. Salleen Mattivi finished fifth with 5:31.09 in the 1600 and third in the 3200 with 11:52.55.

Melanie Ulrich, Ruby Hyde, Sophia Powell and Cecilia Powell finished third in the 4×400 with 4:16.81. Rylee Wheaton finished third in the shot put with 35-10.

Olympic will send seven track stars to state. Jaden Bluit tied for fourth in the high jump with 5-10. On the girls side, Hudson earned a silver medal in the 100-meter dash. She finished in 12.76, 0.01 of a second behind the champion. She also won the 200-meter dash in 25.88.

Vickers finished fifth in the 100 hurdles in 16.87. Hudson will also compete at state in the 4×200 relay with Megan Krell, Aaliya Alcorn and Mia Talarico. The four of them finished fifth in 1:50.24.

Vickers, Talarico, Alcorn and Hudson finished first in the 4×100 in 50.92.

Sara Leasiolagi won the discus with 119-10 and Vickers returned to the podium with a sixth-place finish in the long jump with 15-11.50.
