Track stars compete one last time at state

The track season came to an end and many athletes earned medals at the state meet.

Bainbridge finished 29th as a team on the boys side and 31st on the girls side. Yafei Shou was the only Spartan to finish top three, claiming a bronze medal in the pole vault with 14 feet. Surprisingly, Ella McRitchie did not compete in the girls pole vault competition.

However, Claire Hungerford finished fifth in the 300 hurdles with 45.69 and seventh in the 100 hurdles with 15.96. Mairin O’Brien also finished seventh in her event. She finished 10:56.45 in the 1600 event. Lastly, Amare Clark finished 18th in the triple jump with 41-02.25.

Bremerton boys finished 25th while the girls finished 27th. The Knights earned three medals in the throwing competitions. Rylee Wheaton finished fourth in the shot put with 36-11.75. Ivan Picazo finished 10th in the shot put with 42-07.25 and 11th in the discus with 127-07. Duncan LeVitt rounded out the field events with a 12th-place finish in the high jump with 5-08.

Isaiah Cadengo headlined the runners with a fifth-place finish in the 400 event, ending with 50.49. Cecilia Powell finished seventh in the 400 with 1:01.57. In addition, Dallin Anderson finished seventh in the 800 event with 1:56.73. Bremerton’s boys 4×400 finished eighth with 3:30.64. Lastly, the long-distance runners ended in the back. Enzo Alonso Fernandez finished 13th in the 3200 event with 9:41.08 while Salleen Mattivi finished 14th in the 1600 event with 5:30.20 and eighth in the 3200 with 11:38.53.

Central Kitsap’s boys finished 23rd and the girls finished 17th at state. Roderick Schenk won the javelin title with a record throw of 219 feet, 1 inch, marking the best throw in a high school meet in the nation this season. Savannah Fourier claimed a bronze medal in the high jump with 5-02. Jada Kopp flashed her speed with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with 25.73. Audra Palmer finished fifth in the 1600 with 5:00.93 and Blake Reynolds finished 18th in the 3200 with 9:39.52.

Kingston had one boy and two girls compete but only the girls placed, finishing 37th as a team. Lucas Lenz finished 16th in 1600 with 4:43.83 and 18th in the 3200 with 10:08.16. Taizah Franklin finished 18th in the high jump with 4-06. Leighton Menge reached the podium, finishing fifth in the 100 hurdles with 16.40. She also finished 16th in long jump with 14-03.

Klahowya’s Maggie Keenan was one of two Eagles to reach the podium, finishing third in the 100 hurdles with 16.30. Natalie Oathout finished fourth in the 3200 with 11:32.41 and seventh in the 1600 with 5:20.92. Audrey Younger finished 7th in the 100-meter dash with 13.07 and 13th in pole vault with 8-06. Deacon Wintch finished 17th in pole vault with 10-06. Lastly, Aiden Peacock finished 15th in long jump with 18-03.25.

North Kitsap’s boys team finished 28th and the girls team finished 19th. Salix Wartes-Kahl finishes second in the 800 with 2:16.96 and third in 1600 with 5:09.33. The boys 4×400 team finished fifth with 3:28.91. Tenichi Gordon and Bella Johnston both finished seventh in the pole vault, scoring 13-0 and 9-0. Juliette Sannes finished 12th in pole vault with 8-06. Ethan White finished 12th in the triple jump with 40-07.25. Lastly, Lincon Gould and James Rebman finished 15th and 16th in javelin with 141-01 and 135-01.

Olympic’s girls finished 8th as a team, the best out of any Kitsap school. Sara Leasiolagi won the discus with 116-10 and took sixth in the shot put with 34-08.50. N’Dya Hudson proved to be one of the fastest athletes in the state too. She won the 200 with 25.87 and finished fifth in the 100 with 12.80. The girls 4×200 team also placed seventh with 1:49.54. Lastly, Jaden Bluitt finished 12th in the high jump with 5-08 and Leyna Vickers finished 12th in the long jump with 15-01.

South Kitsap’s boys team finished 19th and the girls finished 9th at state. Amelya Lester-Dame claimed two state titles in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Her times of 15.07 and 31.54 seconds respectively were both personal bests. Grace Degarimore finished second in the shot put and discus with 141-09 and 38-11. Riley Smith took eighth in shot put with 49-00.50 and Rylee Dibert took ninth in javelin with 111-01. Brendan Bourke won the discus with 169-06. Lauren Laws finished fourth in the 800 with 2:13.40 and sixth in the 1600 with 4:59.90. Sophomore Cheyanne Barker finished 10th in 100-meter dash. Lastly, Jefferson Smith finished 15th in the 1600 with 4:30.58
