Kitsap County voters overwhelmingly rejected Prop. 1, the Veterans and Human Services Levy, Tuesday. With 25,000 ballots left to county Tuesday night, the measured received the support of 17,998 voters, but was rejected by 28,284.
Businessman Scott Henden defeated Val Torrens Tuesday for North Kitsap School Board District 4. With 9,158 ballots counted Tuesday, Henden received 4,936 votes to Torrens’ 4,160.

The Kingston Buccaneers’ playoff series ended after their first game Friday night. The Steilacoom Sentinels defeated the Bucs at North Kitsap High School Stadium 38-17. The Sentinels go on to play the Othello Huskies next week. The Bucs retire their uniforms until the 2012-13 season.

LOS ANGELES — Paulyna Garcia Aceves, Kingston High School Class of 2011, has been awarded a one-year scholarship at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
The North Kitsap High School girls soccer team did not spring up overnight.
For three years, until 1981, Craig Smith attended North Kitsap School Board meetings, rallying for the board to adopt a girls soccer program. Finally, instead of delaying the vote for two weeks, the board adopted the program into the district.
Come Nov. 8, Kingston will have a new port commissioner.Some 4,069 ballots were mailed to Kingston Port District voters for the general election, according to the Kitsap County Auditor Elections Office. Ballots can be dropped into the 24-hour box at Poulsbo Fire Station, 911 NE Liberty Road, Poulsbo, until 8 p.m. Nov. 8. Mailed ballots must be postmarked Nov. 8.
