Beth Worthington isn’t afraid to try something new. In her 40s, Worthington began competing in triathlons. She can also be found working out at Kitsap Crossfit, which she has done for about two years. The secret is to just put on your shoes and go, she said. Worthington just added one more activity to her list: being a director of the North Kitsap School Board.
She is believed to be the first Native American elected to the North Kitsap School Board; Marie Hebert, Port Gamble S’Klallam, was appointed to a vacancy on the school board and served in 2000-01.

Because Lanie Scott is told she’s underqualified, the mother of two has been unable to find work. The 36-year-old said restaurants in the area are unwilling to hire her as a dishwasher. Scott’s husband is working, though, and the family is able to get by. “We’re hanging in there,” Scott said. “It’s not exactly easy living nowadays.”
Kitsap County Deputy Prosecutor Barbara Dennis was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 22 in Pierce County District Court. Dennis was arrested Oct. 9 by a Washington State Patrol trooper responding to a vehicle collision at State Route 307 and Pugh Road. Dennis, the driver of one of the two vehicles, had two 3-year-olds in her vehicle at the time.

Bill Sibbett will serve less than two months as a Port of Indianola commissioner before he turns the office over to his successor. Sibbett, a tug boat captain and commercial fisherman, was appointed to the District 3 commission seat Oct. 1 by Commissioners Jeff Henderson and Eric Cookson. Neither commissioner has returned messages left by the Herald.
