The renovations go from Lower Wheaton Way to Sheridan Road on Lebo, a 1.1-mile stretch originally built in the 1950s. The City sought public input on the renovations at two public meetings in early 2016 and through an online open house. From that, a design scope was developed, and the City hired SCJ Alliance, an engineering firm, to design the improvements.

What started as a simple chili cook off more than 20 years ago has turned into a full-blown competition, with an expected 25-30 military culinary specialists submitting dishes in multiple categories.
Part of the renovation plans include completely replacing the playground equipment. They also include making the park ADA compliant, replacing one of the two tennis courts with a multi-sports court, replacing the bathroom, creating a sheltered picnic area, adding walking paths between the features of the park and improving drainage on the fields.
