Trying to change its reputation, the owner of East Bremerton’s Studio 21 is trying to create a place for people to enjoy themselves.

And not get shot.

Club Gemini, 4111 Wheaton Way, Bremerton, is expected to open in the coming weeks. Instead of hip-hop, reggae will be played.

“We wanted to start everything fresh,” said Sunny Singh, son of Gurdarshan Kaberwall who owns the club. Singh said he is in charge of managing the restaurant while Kaberwall manages the nightclub part of the business scheduled to open in the next couple of weeks. Kaberwall is the sole owner of the club now.

In February, a man was shot outside the nightclub.

A 22-year-old Joey R. Sanchez was charged with third-degree assault following the shooting and has since been released on bail. His trial date is set for June 7.

To increase patron safety, Singh said additional cameras have been installed and more security personnel hired.

While still offering the “American classics,” the restaurant’s menu will vary slightly, offering more barbecue choices, Singh said. The restaurant hours have yet to be finalized along with the days of operation. Singh did say however the restaurant will likely open around 4 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. when the nightclub will take over.

Because the club is operating under different conditions and a new name, Kaberwall has re-applied for a liquor license.
