The Chapman family has been traveling from Whidbey Island for 29 years to visit their four stores in Western Washington.

Now they have one more stop to add to their list of locations to visit.

Rich’s Stoves, Spas and Patio recently opened on Silverdale Way in the former location of Alki Stove & Spa. Larry Chapman and his wife, Marianne, have owned the business for more than 20 years and thought about opening a store in Silverdale for a while.

“We thought about it for many years,” Larry said.

The couple’s son, Jon, serves as marketing and operations manager, while their daughter helps Marianne decorate each of the five locations.

“It’s a family owned business,” Larry said.

Rich’s Stoves, Spas and Patio has locations in Lynnwood, Bellevue, Tukwila and Tacoma. Larry said he’s always wanted to open a location on the Kitsap Peninsula and felt now was the perfect time to do it.

“It’s a growing area. The peninsula’s a growing area,” he said. “Our advertisements already penetrate the area and we feel there’s a need for our product, there’s a demand for it.”

Larry said it took about two months to prepare and open the Silverdale store. He’s already hired Brad Meyers as store manager and feels good about the company’s new location.

“Really, you know, it’s gone well, very smooth,” Larry said. “We’re pretty well covered with this store.”

Rich’s Stoves, Spas and Patio carries name brand patio furniture, spas, fireplaces, wood stoves, fire pits, barbecues and gas grills. They sell Tropitone and O.W. Lee patio furniture and Caldera spas, the “largest manufacturers of spas in the world,” according to Larry.

“I don’t think anybody else over here has this type of furniture,” he said. “There are companies out there that only specialize in patio furniture and those are the brands we carry.”

Rich’s Stoves, Spas and Patio is “the largest retailer of name brand patio furniture in the Northwest and the largest retailer of stoves in Western Washington,” according to Larry. He added that most things, such as patio furniture, can be special ordered with style and color preferences.

Rich’s Stoves, Spas and Patio has a full-time service department and professional fireplace installers for their five locations.

“We’re very committed to our service,” Larry said. “We have four service trucks going all over Puget Sound to help out.”

Rich’s Stoves, Spas and Patio will host a grand opening celebration the entire week of April 7 at their Silverdale store. Patio furniture will be 20-60 percent off and other items will be discounted as well.

“Grand opening prices will be in effect,” Larry said. “There will be special savings on various products.”

Rich’s Stoves, Spas and Patio will serve cookies and Starbucks coffee on the weekend of their grand opening. Larry encourages people to stop in for a free cup of coffee and check out what the Silverdale store has to offer.

“Come on in and have a free coffee and cookie,” he said with a smile.
