Carving unveiled at North Kitsap Medical Center

Local firm Inovest, owned and operated by Tracyton resident Robin Waite, has unveiled a rare carving at its North Kitsap Medical Center.

The basis of the carving, a 60-foot, second-growth cedar slated to be completely cut down, has been transformed by “Bear in a Box,” another local firm (www.bearinabox.com/default.php).

“The tree was dying from the top down and we felt it was important to somehow salvage this tree,” Waite said. “The carver, a fine man named George Kenny, asked for us to leave him 12 feet to do the carving, which we did.”

The carving cost $1,500 and took two full days.

The carving can be seen in Poulsbo on the medical center grounds at the intersection of State Highway 305 and Bond Road.

PAC celebrates 14 years

Poulsbo Athletic Club opened Jan. 30, 1995, on Front Street at the head of Liberty Bay. In April 2001 it was moved to its current location

in Poulsbo Village behind Rite Aid and Albertsons. The move from the smaller facility, 8,000 square feet, to a 19,000 square-foot facility allowed a large expansion of fitness class offerings, as well as the addition of aquatic classes, racquetball and more.
