Educational seminars through Silverdale chamber
The Silverdale Chamber of Commerce is providing several upcoming seminars open to members and the community. All classes are on Fridays.
Bob Doane of Acupuncture Wellness Center will teach three seminars all at 8 a.m.: “Health and Stress Workshop” May 27; “Natural Solutions to Headache Pain” June 10; “Corporate Wellness” June 17.
Mindy Fohn with the Surface and Stormwater Management Program with the county Public Works Department will provide a series of seminars on stormwater, watershed management and the importance of keeping water clean on June 3 and 10 and July 15. All three seminars will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fundraiser in Silverdale for new nonprofit
Personal Touch home care has started a nonprofit portion to its business, The Shepherds and The Angels, and will have a fundraiser dinner and silent auction to assist with the nonprofit from 4 to 9 p.m. June 4 at the Silverdale Beach Hotel. Tickets cost $55 each or $100 for two. Money from the event will go toward purchasing a van with a lift for seniors. Monthly coffee club with Edward Jones financial advisor
Donald Logan, an Edward Jones financial advisor, will host a coffee club at 8:15 a.m. the fourth Wednesday of every month. The club will meet at Edward Jones, 2416 NW Myhre Road, Suite 102, Silverdale.

Kitsap Community Foundation gets grant
The Kitsap Community Foundation was awarded a capacity-building grant by Philanthropy Northwest. The grant will help pay for a training program assisting local non-profit to improve their effectiveness. The foundation has joined with Terry Halvorson and the Bremerton Conference Center in offering workshops in strategic planning, board development and grant-writing. In addition, the foundation will provide individual mentoring to five organizations developing strategic or operational plans.
County Leaders want to bring Boeing to Kitsap
Kitsap County business and government leaders met May 11 at the Port of Bremerton with a representative of the Washington Aerospace Partnership to discuss how the county could land the next Boeing 737 manufacturing facility, according to a statement from the Port of Bremerton.
The brainstorming meeting identified the county’s strengths as a highly skilled, highly educated workforce, available manufacturing-zoned land, an airport, rail, highway and deep-port access and effective workforce development programs already in place with major employers and Olympic College.
Boeing is said to be considering building a new Boeing 737 manufacturing plant that could accommodate a new version of the highly successful commercial airliner. They have not yet formally announced a competition for the plant, but could do so at any time.
