Custom Neon owner Laurie Lewis has announced a new venture with Oregon-based Vocation Vacations.
This unique company connects people with their dream job by helping them identify their strengths and capabilities, then offering a virtual smorgasboard of jobs to “sample.”
Once signed up with Vocation Vacations, customers can choose from hundreds of jobs, everything from dog trainer to private eye — and everything in between.
Customers then get the chance to actually go to the job site and spend two or three intensive days with the owner to learn the ins and outs of the business.
“Vocation Vacations is designed to let you find out if a job you always dreamed of is really what you thought it would be, before you quit your current job, move, or make any other drastic changes,” said Lewis.
Kingston’s Custom Neon is now participating with Vocation Vacations, offering a two-day intensive hands-on overview of the neon sign making business.
The program is designed for those considering neon manufacturing as a source of employment, but would also be appropriate for anyone wanting to simply enjoy learning about, and making, a small neon piece.
The two days are set up so that there is flexibility in the content, allowing the participant to identify the areas they are most interested in.
All participants will be encouraged to take a small neon project through to completion — starting with design, then bending, bombarding, and assembly.
Cost of the intensive workshop is $1,099 and includes the two days of mentoring, lunches and all materials, plus individual career counseling with Vocation Vacations staff.
