POULSBO — The latest addition to Poulsbo’s growing number of retail stores will open its doors on Nov. 23.

CVS pharmacy has quickly put up four walls and a roof on the corner of Highway 305 and Hostmark Street since the demolition of the former Northwest Design Center in June. The building is now complete and shelves are being stocked.

“At this point, the majority of the work is interior work, fixtures, getting all the systems wired up,” said Mike DeAngelis, spokesperson for CVS. “That’s the work that needs to be completed.”

The Poulsbo CVS is 14,500 square feet. Also approved for the property is an additional 3,995-square-foot building for a fast-food restaurant.

CVS is a pharmacy as well as a health and beauty store. With approximately 7,800 locations, it is the second-largest pharmacy chain in the country, behind Walgreens. DeAngelis said that CVS separates from the crowd with its stances on health and special product lines, such as Nuance, a beauty line by Salma Hayek.

“We are the only national pharmacy that doesn’t sell tobacco,” DeAngelis said. “We are a healthcare-focused retailer. We are also the only pharmacy to have a community accreditation from URAC who ensures safety of pharmacy systems.”

URAC is a healthcare accreditation agency formerly known as the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, according to www.urac.org.

Poulsbo’s location will be among of a handful of CVS stores that are giving the company a foothold in Washington state. DeAngelis said the move is something that the company’s clients have requested for some time. The parent company, CVS Health, not only handles pharmacies, but also prescription benefits for employers. “Clients are asking us regularly, ‘When are you going to open stores in the Pacific Northwest,'” he said.

CVS opened a pharmacy in Renton last summer and will open a second location on Nov. 16 in Burien. Poulsbo’s location will be the final CVS store opened in 2014. DeAngelis said more could be on the way in 2015.
