Do-it-yourself shredding kiosks now in Port Orchard

A locally owned shredding company installed one of two self-serve shredding kiosks in Port Orchard.

A locally owned shredding company installed one of two self-serve shredding kiosks Friday in Port Orchard.

All Shred, located in Poulsbo, installed the new do-it-your-self kiosk at Fred Meyer, 1900 SE Sedgwick Road.

“The do-it-yourself” shredder makes it quick and easy to destroy personal information, aiding in the prevention of identity theft,” said Lori Wiltz, sales manager for All Shred. “Think how convenient it will be to take that box or stack of shredding to a grocery store, do your shredding, then shop for your groceries.”

According to Wiltz, the shredding kiosks offer quick, secure, document destruction at affordable prices.

“Shredding is at high-speed, shredding up to 50 sheets at one time. It takes about five minutes to shred a file-box full of material with the cost being only $3 per minute,” Wiltz said.

She said that a $30 hold is placed on your credit card then released once your transaction is complete. Payment can be made with VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover cards.

“The time charged is prorated, so you only pay for the portion of the minute you use,” Wiltz noted.

In addition to paper, individuals can shred CDs, floppy disks, credit cards, folders, paperclips and staples.

The shredding kiosks were created and are owned by The Shred Stop of Seattle. The kiosks were leased by All Shred with the intent that these are the first of many to be placed in Kitsap County.

“They have 11 kiosks in Seattle and five in Portland,” Wiltz said. “There are no other do-it-yourself shredding kiosks in the nation. We wanted to see if it was something we could do locally to create revenue for All Shred and bring these kiosks to Kitsap County.”

All Shred has been providing shredding and recycling services to Kitsap County since October 2004.

All Shred is licensed, insured and supports the Kitsap County Recycling initiative. It is a subsidiary enterprise of Peninsula Services, a non-profit organization established in 1971.

Wiltz said Peninsula Services’ mission is to provide training and employment to individuals with disabilities.
