POULSBO — Trendy clothing suitable for adult women of all ages has made its way to Poulsbo.
Florida native — and Poulsbo resident since 2000 — Kristin Vogt found her comfort zone in large prints, sparkly accessories and jeans to fit nearly any female form when she opened Eloisa on Front Street in May. Eloisa, a clothing boutique, delivers on the tagline, “trendy clothing … finally,” and packs a lot of fashion into a tiny nook in downtown Poulsbo.
“I wanted to have a store that had flair and character where a woman could come in and find fashionable items at affordable prices,” she said.
The original intended market was the younger set — middle and high schoolers — but over time Vogt realized the women walking through her doors were older. She began to adjust her wares to reflect the more sophisticated market.
Cocktail dresses, for instance, always are in stock. She also has Joe’s Jeans and iT Jeans, both popular lines with Vogt’s clientele.
Opening a boutique wasn’t a stretch for Vogt, as textiles and fabrics run in her bloodline. Her father still works in fabrics, just as he did when she as growing up in Florida.
She made her first foray into fashion when she designed her own clothing line in 1999. For that, she drew on the assistance of her father’s coworkers at a fabric plant, sacrificing evenings and weekends to launch the line.
The line was eventually introduced into one of her friend’s boutiques and it sold quite well. Her career was put on hold when she married and had children.
Now that her children are growing up and in school, she decided it was time to get back into the fashion world. The result of that decision was Eloisa, which Vogt describes as a boutique with “a Soho-London girly flair with a specialized focus in helping our customers find that special, charming piece for their wardrobe.”
She stocks clothing suitable for all seasons.
The shop has everything needed to create an outfit, she said, from lingerie to a small selection of shoes. For those women who need a little assistance controlling their mid-section, Vogt has Spanx (a comfortable girdle, of sorts) on order.
She’s also returning to her roots and has a clothing line of her own currently in production.
Vogt said she’s one of the luckier shop owners in downtown Poulsbo.
“We’ve managed to stay totally busy,” she said. “People just aren’t buying art right now they’re just not in that mindset. But they are buying clothes.”
