Housing Authority selects KHS as nonprofit of the year

Employees at the Bremerton Housing Authority (BHA) selected Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) as the nonprofit organization they will “adopt” in 2014

The almost 100 employees at the Bremerton Housing Authority (BHA) selected Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) as the nonprofit organization they will “adopt” in 2014 to focus their after-hours volunteer time and team building efforts.

The selection of KHS is the result of a majority vote of BHA employees who annually select a local nonprofit with the intent of aiding the organization in whatever needs they might have.

The staff at the BHA will be holding supply and fundraising drives throughout 2014 for the animals at Kitsap Humane Society, as well as volunteering at KHS events such as the Fore the Animals Golf Tournament on May 9 at Trophy Lake Golf & Country Club in Port Orchard, PetsWALK on July 12 in downtown Poulsbo and Animal Krackers, a dinner and auction event benefiting Kitsap Humane Society, in the fall in downtown Bremerton.

“We are honored that the employees of the Bremerton Housing Authority selected Kitsap Humane Society as their nonprofit for 2014,” said Eric Stevens, KHS’s executive director, “we look forward to working with them and having their support in our efforts to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome over 4,000 animals this year.”

Bremerton Housing Authority kicked off its nonprofit  “adoption” program in 2013 by supporting Coffee Oasis, with wonderful results. Successful projects included collecting needed items for their overnight youth shelter, raising funds, assisting with the Coffee Oasis Neighborhood Block Party, and donating gifts for their Christmas Giving Tree.

Kitsap Humane Society is a private, non-profit charitable organization that has been caring for animals in need since 1908. KHS admits over 4,200 animals per year and has a 94 percent lives saved rate, one of the highest in the U.S.
