POULSBO — The 3D mammography technology used by InHealth Imaging has been found to discover 40 percent more invasive cancers and decrease false-positive rates by 15 percent, according to an article in the January issue of Radiology magazine.

The technology is called Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, or DBT or 3D Mammography. According to the Radiology article, Dr. Per Skaane, PhD, of the University of Oslo, and colleagues came to their conclusion after analyzing results from 12,631 exams conducted from November 2010 to December 2011.

InHealth Imaging and has been offering DBT since March 2011, and was reportedly the first to bring DBT to the Pacific Northwest.

“We have completed several thousand mammograms. Of the cancers detected, many were early enough to avoid chemotherapy treatment,” said Manfred Henne, MD, board-certified radiologist at InHealth Imaging.
