Martha & Mary of Poulsbo has expanded into home care by buying the Port Orchard-based Angel Advocates, a non-medical home care company serving Kitsap, Pierce, Mason and Jefferson Counties. The purchase was complete in November but Martha & Mary did not make the announcement until late last week.
Nearly all the employees who worked at Angel Advocates before the purchase are still employed there, Martha & Mary spokesman Robert Gelder said. The operation will maintain the status quo for now, including keeping its base in Port Orchard. Eventually, satellite offices may spring up.
Angel Advocates offers in-home assistance to the elderly and vulnerable adult communities.
“Besides aging and dementia issues, even a simple accident, illness, or surgery can require some additional help at home,” said Jan DeMars, administrator of Angel Advocates. “Licensed and insured providers such as Angel Advocates can offer a variety of help with all activities of daily living, from simple chores — shopping, cleaning — to personal care services (shower assistance, etc) and medication reminders.”
The assistance can be the difference for someone living independently and not moving into a care facility, she said.
“We help folks maintain their independence with dignity and respect,” she said.
