Scott McLendon’s Hardware will serve a free pancake to the public on Saturday, May 3, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the store, 1692 SE Mile Hill Dr.
The 19th annual event is held in appreciation of the people who shop local.
In addition, gift drawings and time sensitive coupon specials will be awarded throughout the day.
Along with the pancake breakfast, the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce will launch its sixth annual “Shop SK First” campaign, according to Chamber Executive Director Christine Daniel.
Daniel said the purpose of the Shop SK First campaign is to continue to build community awareness of the importance of shopping locally.
“Such awareness includes educating consumers about the power of their local spending and how that benefits the local economy by creating jobs, minimizing tax increases, enhancing property values, and supporting our local schools, firefighters, police, etc.,” Daniel said.
She said local businesses also benefit the consumer by providing more personalized customer service and diverse shopping opportunities that reflects consumer’s unique tastes.
“More businesses often mean more choices, as local businesses usually carry more specialized lines or products that compliments larger chain stores,” said Daniel. “The Chamber believes as consumers, we have the power to shape our community.”
She said residents and businesses in Port Orchard and South Kitsap are fortunate to live in an area that truly is “self-sustaining and self-supporting.”
