Hospice of Kitsap County receives $1 million individual donation
In recognition of a $1 million donation, the Hospice of Kitsap County inpatient care center will be renamed the Fred Lowthian Hospice Care Center, the center’s board of trustees and Executive Director Jim Pledger announced last week.
The gift, from Sheila Lowthian, is the largest amount received from an individual in the hospice’s 32-year history, according to a statement. Lowthian made the donation so that the hospice can continue providing dignity, compassion and comfort to Kitsap residents coping with life-limiting illnesses.

Downtown Poulsbo, marred in the last year by several recession-induced closings, is taking a fresh breath. Several new businesses have opened or are opening; two relocated here from Winslow because of construction on Winslow Way.
Poulsbo’s share of sales tax revenue generated in the city in 2010 was $2.85 million, $73,691 more than in 2009. And city Finance Director Debbie Booher said the city is off to a promising start in 2011. While sales tax revenue was lower than in 2008, 2007 and 2006, revenue generated by business conducted here by firms located elsewhere, like construction companies, continued to outpace all previous years. That revenue was more than $1 million. The city also saw continued growth in revenue from College Marketplace.

The Bremerton Bar and Grill, a new downtown restaurant scheduled to open for dinner April 18, is hiring more than 40 local employees for all positions.
