Poulsbo’s American Rose Bridal gets new digs

POULSBO — For years, she’s been saving brides cash, helping to find them the dress of the perfect fit.

She has helped shoppers prepare for proms, pageants, baptisms, communions, balls and cruise ship galas. She’s encountered happy couples, and their bridesmaid-zilla and mom-of-the-bride-zilla counterparts.

But in the face of a waning economy and furrowing financial forecast, Lynanne White, owner of American Rose Bridal, has just one thing to say: “We’re here.”

And by here, she means roughly right where she’s been the last four years — only not quite.

American Rose Bridal will hold a grand reopening today at 2 p.m., celebrating its new Plaza 305 location just a few storefronts down from where it was previously located. The shop’s new digs will double dressing room space, allow for a more open store and an uptick in displays; it even boasts energy-saving elements and a chandelier. And customers can expect more browsing room, as they survey the 250 wedding gowns and 400 special occasion dresses (more than 100 of them cost less than $100) White has to offer.

White worked as a seamstress before opening American Rose Bridal. Now, American Rose Bridal provides what she termed “reasonable alterations,” which start around $30, versus those that skyrocket toward $300. White also searches out formal wear deals and passes those savings along, offering most items at 20-75 percent below suggested retail.

“There are just a whole bunch of ways we save the brides money,” White explained. “Pretty much everything we have here costs less than at other bridal shops.”

Grooms aren’t left out of the loop: tuxes start at $49. Aside from what she’s got ready to sell, White can also place special orders. She sells shoes, undergarments, jewelry, purses, fine kids clothing, bridal shower gifts and bridal emergency kits.

White said this season, in light of widespread budget-tightening, wedding styles are headed in a casual, relaxed direction.

“People are still going to want to get married, they just might not spend as much as they would have,” she contended. “They might be looking to save a little bit more money, which is good, ‘cause that’s what we do.”

And it’s just the season: according to White, over the Christmas, New Year’s and Valentine’s holidays plenty of women become engaged, meaning late winter and early spring months are ripe for wedding dress searching. Around Kitsap, July and August are popular wedding months.
