POULSBO – Snap Fitness Poulsbo is offering complimentary summer memberships to first-time-visitor teens as part of Teen Fitness Connection, a program to promote teen fitness.

The program begins today and ends Aug. 31. As a part of their membership agreement, teens must check into the club by 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and noon on Saturday. Teens can use the fitness center until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

More than 80 health clubs and 3,395 teens from across the country are enrolled in Teen Fitness Connection.

“Our club staff is extremely excited about this revolutionary teen program,” said Aleta Gibson, owner of Snap Fitness Poulsbo/Silverdale.

“Teen Fitness Connection provides a chance for us to stand up and facilitate a solution to the childhood obesity epidemic. We are also offering day camps for children ages 7-12, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. based on the Thin and Healthy Kids Program. They will learn about good sound nutrition and fun ways to get moving and active.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 17 percent of teens are overweight. The U.S. Surgeon General reports 25 percent of teens are active for the recommended 30 minutes a day, five days a week. It’s time for a jumpstart to the solution.
