For a person with no children, Nicole Broady’s home is filled with lots of costumes and toys.

“My house is one big storage area,” she laughed.

Broady recently opened The Perfect Place, a party-planning business. She hosted a launch party Aug. 27 at Farm Kitchen in Poulsbo for friends and associates.

“It wasn’t too huge. It was good. I got a lot of good feedback,” Broady said.

The California native always wanted her own business and when she was laid off from her secretarial job at GeoEngineers in Port Orchard in May, she knew it was time to capitalize on the opportunity to open The Perfect Place.

“I was working toward having a business plan and getting everything together and getting laid off really pushed me to go for it,” Broady said.

She originally wanted to open a storefront, but she decided she could offer consumers lower prices by working from her home and not having to pay rent on a space.

Broady will plan girls’ night socials and children’s parties. Girls’ night socials evolved from Broady’s own parties with friends. The Navy wife said she and her friends have girls’ night gatherings often and other women will definitely enjoy the get-togethers.

She will set up parties at locations for $30 per person or do Out Of The Box Parties where she delivers the goods and the clients set things up themselves for $12 per person.

Clients do not have to have a girls’ night idea in mind. Broady will help brainstorm party themes with clients such as spa treatments, movie night, game night or scrap-booking get-togethers.

The Perfect Place’s themed children’s parties are for boys and girls. Themes include cupcake creations, ninja master, the royal ball, pirate’s cove, mermaid lagoon and garden fairies.

“I personally like the garden fairy one. It’s really whimsical with the fairy wings and colors,” Broady said.

She may add a few more children’s themes, particularly a superhero one for boys.

“I knew girls — fairies and princesses — but for boys I was thinking of generic themes,” she said.

Two-hour children’s-themed parties cost $200 and include everything from sending invitations to costumes and food.

Broady keeps all her party-planning supplies at her home and buys most of the goods locally.

“I’m a savvy shopper,” she said.

Broady’s mother, Mary Shields of Auburn, Calif., makes or alters most of The Perfect Place’s children’s costumes and Broady couldn’t be more grateful.

“My mom has been a significant help,” she said.

Broady has several events booked in the coming months and would like to plan a large public event in the future.

“I’m not a stay-at-home kind of person, so this definitely keeps me busy,” she said. “It’s work, but it’s work that I love doing.”
