KINGSTON — Windermere offices in the greater Seattle area are serving as collection centers for the company’s “Kicks for Kids” sneaker drive for low income youth.
New or gently used sneakers in kid’s sizes 1-9 can be dropped off at any Seattle area Windermere office until Aug. 15. Sneakers can also be dropped off at the Windermere Summer Splash event Aug. 16 at Green Lake. Gentle Giants Moving Company will collect the sneakers and deliver them to King County Boys and Girls Club, and Mary’s Place, in time for the first day of school.
“Studies show that when kids feel good about their appearance, it improves both their self-esteem and their performance in school,” said OB Jacobi, president of Windermere Real Estate. “We think every child deserves to start the school year on the right foot, so with the public’s help, we’re determined to make that happen for as many kids as possible.”
The two-week sneaker drive will end on with the Windermere Summer Splash event at Green Lake. Together, with partners Seattle Parks and Recreation and the George Pocock Rowing Foundation, the free, day-long event will celebrate summer fun and healthy activities for families.
Highlights will include live entertainment, kid-friendly activities, food booths, free giveaways, and the opportunity to try out rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. There will be a Junior Rowing Race, and a Corporate Cup Regatta that will see some iconic Seattle companies face off.
