A letter from new KMS principal

My name is Craig Barry and I am the new principal of Kingston Middle School. Our school is one that I am proud to represent as a new Cavalier!

Hello, KMS Cavalier Community,

My name is Craig Barry and I am the new principal of Kingston Middle School. Our school is one that I am proud to represent as a new Cavalier!

As many of you know, Kingston Middle School (KMS) has a rich tradition in which students excel both in the classroom and as contributing citizens in the many extra-curricular programs we are fortunate to offer.

My primary goal is to recognize our strong academic background in addition to our proud traditions which will enable our students to flourish in an ever changing world. This includes creating a school environment which is safe, welcoming, and focused on student achievement. I know that this task extends far beyond my office. The success of KMS depends on all of us working together and marching toward high school graduation. Our partnership will ensure that your investment in our school was worth the effort.

As the summer draws to a close, I wanted to highlight a few back-to-school items that will help us start the year with a focus on instruction and citizenship.

Many of you are starting to think about back-to-school shopping; please remember that part of our mission in creating contributing citizens is professional behavior, which includes appropriate attire, timeliness, decorum and responsible use of electronic devices.

Many of our students look forward to new clothes for a new year, please help them make choices which are comfortable, professional, and school appropriate. In addition to new clothes, our students often are excited to bring new electronic devices to school. Please also help remind them that using electronic devices at school is a privilege which also carries a responsibility to use them appropriately and, at times, with stipulations. Lastly, many students have spent the summer in a variety of exciting and relaxing adventures with peers. Help them begin the transition back to school with some reminders about professional language and behavior. The student handbook is also online if you need to reference anything before the year begins. I know that you already do this on many levels, but with teenagers it never hurts to say it again.

Your generous support of our fantastic school is an essential component to student success.

I look forward to our continued partnership in shaping a school that is safe, welcoming and focused on student achievement.
