The Friends of the Kingston Library was the first group this year to make a pledge for the new Community Center and Library. The group’s pledge is supported by its work within the community and the receipts from its biannual book sales and special projects.
The fun news for the Friends of the Library this month is the in-store Book Fair at the Eagle Harbor Book Company in Winslow. Friends of the Kingston Library members will “take over” the Eagle Harbor Book Store with great book suggestions, staffing the store and offering treats to the customers.
Twenty percent of the price of all books purchased from 5-7 p.m. will be donated back to the Friends of the Kingston Library.
Plans are shaping up for the March Book Sale at the Community Building in Kingston. The sale will be two days this spring — March 9-10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first hour will be for Friends of the Library, then the doors will open to the public at 10 a.m. Being able to get into the sale early, to pick the cream-of-the-crop of great books, is an incentive to become a friend of the Kingston Library. Pick up a sign-up form at the cashier’s table at the book sale.
The Friends of the Library book sales provide the funds for FOL to be a major contributor to the Kingston Library summer reading program, where hundreds of children are able to maintain and build their reading skills when school is out of session.
With the new year came a new roster of officers, with Sharon Redpath taking the helm as president. Jerrianne Helberg, the outgoing president, was honored by the Kingston Kiwanas Club for her dedication to the Kingston Library and the stellar job she did as president.
Friends of the Library urges you to bring your already read books to the Community Center collection center at the bottom of the stairs to help make book sales more profitable to support the library and more fun for other readers.
