Will enough of us face such truths as this: Celebrating diversity is a part of the problem and not the solution?
Of course we should be celebrating unity! It is obvious to me.
Diversity categorizes and divides and excludes, while unity is a welcoming draw for all to embrace.
Diversity promotes segregation. It excludes our American heritage, specifically, under the guise of respecting all cultures. It destroys the fabric of a people who, already diverse, experienced unity by living as Americans blessed with the freedom America offered unlike any other nation’s laws ever in written history.
It seems counterproductive to me to abuse or to exploit these laws against themselves, ultimately denying ourselves our basic rights by our own actions. Our freedom is dependent on preserving and protecting them. We change unfair laws through legal processes and amendments to “form a more perfect union.” It isn’t meant for us to destroy it in the process.
“Celebrating” other cultures is totally acceptable on its own merits and it doesn’t require we trash the culture of the host nation to validate it. The unity is within the laws. They are written as such that all can believe in their choices without government interference. I just don’t see that as the case at present.
We can celebrate unity, all of us, by embracing the laws that provide such an opportunity, never by destroying them.
