Amy Igloi-Matsuno has run a clean campaign, but it’s time someone talked about the elephant in the room.

How come no one questions why the city was four years out of compliance with the state’s Growth Management Act under the previous mayor?

Fred Chang chaired the committee tasked with keeping the city compliant. His refusal to uphold his responsibility cost the city millions in grant funding during his first term in office.

Where were the questions about Chang when the city council adopted a Downtown Overlay District that permitted bail bondsmen to operate on the ground floor retail spaces throughout the downtown area, where the shopkeepers are working tirelessly to attract family and businesses that will make downtown more viable?

And what the heck was Chang thinking when he personally and summarily dismissed South Kitsap Fire & Rescue Chief Wayne Senter’s and Police Chief Al Townsend’s major concerns regarding the proposed roundabout?

Where was his concern for public safety then?

That’s why the police and firefighters have not endorsed him.

Chang rubber-stamped DOT’s plan for Port Orchard without representing Port Orchard’s public safety concerns.

It’s time for a change. My vote will only go to Amy, who has continually supported veterans, police and firefighters.
