County needs a new prosecutor

I am submitting this letter to the editor to explain why I will not vote for or support the re-election bid of Russ Hauge.

Last December, a repeat felon shot at officers in my neighborhood forcing them to return fire. This felon is still awaiting prosecution. Neighbor’s homes are still awaiting resolution for the bullet holes from officer fired rounds. This felon has plagued our neighborhood since Hauge took office.

Where is our relief?

My business received a counterfeit check for goods. I tracked this felon down and served him up to prosecutors. Russ’s office convicted the felon with a light sentence however when I asked about my losses after a year of waiting, I was told “sorry no restitution was sought.”

I contacted the prosecutor’s office for help when I had personal knowledge of a felon in possession of a firearm while still on parole with protection orders before the courts. I was told “not our issue, call the Department of Corrections.” I contacted the officer on duty who explained they are so overwhelmed they didn’t have the resources to collect either the felon or firearm. That felon is now out and back on the street after committing a second gun crime against yet another citizen. How many have to get hurt?

The estimated $500,000 spent chasing a gun club and its director could have been better spent. They aren’t felons.

It’s time for a change.
