I’ve been informed that)the huge cement circles at corner crosswalks are called “bulb outs.”
It appears that the Sidney Street intersection in downtown Port Orchard will soon have four bulb outs, created to shorten the distance pedestrians need to travel crossing the street. Never mind that cars will no longer be able to turn right at the intersection avoiding the line of cars waiting to travel straight ahead.
Bulb outs here appear to be a done deal. Now I notice a circular, painted white line at the crossing in front of the Port Orchard Library. Is another bulb out planned for this crosswalk area?
Why? The parking area south of the library is already a congested, sometimes difficult to maneuver area because of cars parked next to the Antique Mall and the library.
In fact, finding a place to park when going to the library is almost always a challenge.
The lot adjacent to the library is designated employees only.
I notice that the circular, painted white line by the library crosswalk also eliminates at least two parking spots next to the library in the round about road area. If my assumption is correct that the painted white line at the library crossing designates a future bulb out, would someone please explain why?
