Approving the latest South Kitsap School District bond and levy is akin to lighting a fuse on a tax bomb.
There seems to be no end to this tax nightmare, and now the district is employing a new taxation strategy. They have seen how other taxing jurisdictions pass capital levies when they have failed to pass bonds.
The district knows all they need is 50 percent plus one vote to pass a levy, so they figure if they can’t get a bond to pass, they will get their money using capital levies. Capital levies can be used to build schools. It will take a lot of them, but rest assured the district won’t be shy; they won’t desist from continuing to employ this new taxation strategy.
There is no limit to the number of capital levies the district can file. Before you vote, think about how these continued taxing efforts by the district can affect your neighbors. Some folks may in time be forced out our houses. The path the district is now following is “taxation by a thousand cuts.”
Do not be a party to your neighbor losing their home. Don’t let this “tax horse” get its nose into the tent! Vote “no” on both the bond and the capital levy.
