The 26th annual Kitsap Human Rights Conference is taking place at Olympic College on Dec. 9.
Each year, the Kitsap County Council for Human Rights hosts this conference to educate and inspire the residents of Kitsap to cherish and defend everyone’s human rights. This year’s conference theme is “Implicit Bias.” We have two excellent keynote speakers this year.
Barbara Lawrence-Piecuch, a Suquamish elder, will speak on “Implicit Bias toward Indigenous People of the Puget Sound Region.” Joy Williams, diversity manager at the Washington Bar Association, will open the conference with a talk on “Implicit Bias,” defining it and educating us on how it undermines human rights. We have great workshops planned and a youth panel, who will discuss how bias operates in their lives.
If you want to connect with other people in Kitsap who care about these issues and if you’re looking for a way to get involved in the community, attending this conference is one of the best options. There are scholarships available for students. Lunch is included with your registration. You can register by visiting the Kitsap County Council for Human Rights webpage.
We hope to see you there!
