Letter: Believe in Jesus to get to heaven

I am responding to the cartoon that appeared on the Feb. 19 opinion page. The cartoon shows Justice Antonin Scalia being welcomed to heaven.

The listed inhabitants are of every type and sexual persuasion. There will undoubtedly be bi- and multi-whatever people in heaven, but they will be there because they have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior who died for their sins, not because of their “orientation.” The Bible makes that clear in John 3:16 and Acts 4:12. In fact the sins of those who ultimately reject him have also been paid for (1 John 2:2).

Those who do not believe, no matter how wonderful a person they were, will not be admitted. According to the Bible, their final abode will be a place not originally intended for human beings (Matthew 25:41). Why would anyone want to spend eternity in such a place? (Luke 16:19-31, Revelation 20:10-15).

Since sin is no longer an issue thanks to the work of Christ on the cross, the unbelievers will be judged by their good works, which won’t be enough to save them.
