I just read the front page article about enrollment decline will result in SKSD funding shortfall. I am so irritated after reading it that I had to write and express my thoughts — as I’m sure I’m not the only person who fails to understand our school district.

We have been told for years about how Kitsap is growing and our schools aren’t keeping up with the times. We are preached to monthly about how there are too many students, which leads to overcrowding in the classrooms. Too little money for each student — which leads to books not being purchased training tools not being bought.

How teachers are being let go, which results in not enough teachers to teach the students. Programs constantly being threatened or shut down due to lack of funding — for example no more buses.

That’s always thrown in there because it scares parents to death. Oh my gosh how are we going to get the kids to school. One of us will have to go in later to work — panic sets in. It is shoved down our throats by SKSD and we are made to believe that if we don’t pass each and every levy then we don’t care about children. We are voting against the welfare of our future generation.

So this is concern after reading the article. Shouldn’t the school district be happy about the decline in the enrollment of students. Now there will be less students in the classrooms. I see that as a smaller student-to-teacher ratio. Doesn’t it also show that the current funding they have, which was given to them based on a higher student enrollment will now be divided between less students.

Well, I see that as a positive too. I could go on and on but I won’t. The point I am making to SKSD is you can’t ask for more money when you have high enrollment and ask for even more of my money when you have less enrollment. I see no problem letting the state give the money to a school district that is gaining in enrollment — not declining.

As far as I’m concerned you need to live within your budget. I do it everyday.
