Kindness magical

To the editor:

A very special thing happened to Tom the day before Veterans Day. He was in a checkout line getting a toaster. He put it on the counter, but really didn’t pay attention to what was going on in front of him.

When it was his turn the clerk said, “You’re good to go.” Tom was wearing an old Marines cap that the woman apparently noticed. She told the clerk she wanted to pay for his purchase. By the time Tom found out what was going on, the woman had already left.

Tom was touched by the gesture from the stranger who sought no thanks. This was a generous gift as the toaster was not cheap at $69 plus tax. Kindness is magic.
