Landlords end up holding the bag

I wholeheartedly agree with Connie Christman (April 8) and will support her in doing something to protect landlords from tenants who seemingly have no qualms about leaving their rental not only damaged but with mountains of trash.

Not to mention not paying their rent or their utilities … Especially when the landlords have provided clean, well cared for rentals for them to rent.

Then you have those who holdover and take advantage of the lengthy, cumbersome process of eviction.

My problems have been with renters to whom I have extended considerations because of hardship stories and false impressions of their character.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt placed me in the position of enabling their bad behavior.

There is the issue that it also spoils the chances for those who really do need help and kindness. As I have been burnt enough times, my tendency has been to have much less empathy.

The legal process for eviction is geared to the renter unfairly and there are good landlords out there who are being taken advantage of.
