Spay Day USA
Be a responsible pet owner
February 24 is Spay Day USA, a day to raise awareness of pet overpopulation and the importance of spaying/neutering. Millions of animals are killed every year in the United States due to overpopulation. Spaying/neutering is the humane solution to stop overpopulation.
Not only does spaying/neutering save lives, it also adds years to your pet’s life. It’s safer to spay a cat than for her to give birth. Male cats will be less likely to spray, fight and roam if neutered. It’s selfish and irresponsible to not spay/neuter your cat.
In the past six weeks I’ve helped 300 cats get fixed and there are many waiting to get done. Wake up Kitsap County, most people want to fix their cats, they just can’t afford $200-300 for a spay. Kitsap Humane Society, PAWS, ARF and others are also helping fix cats but we need to do more to really stop the overpopulation.
This year we have a local effort to support Spay Day USA. The Kitsap Spay/Neuter Council is made up of members of Kitsap Humane Society, PAWS of Bainbridge and Bremerton, REDD and caring individuals. 14 local vets are participating in low-cost services. We are thankful for their help and to the KHS for all their help (thanks Dana).
To donate to the spay/neuter cause or sponsor a spay/neuter or if you need help with spay/neuter, please call (360) 479-6775.
Let’s Beat the Heat and try to fix as many as possible before they reproduce.
Please do the right thing: Spay/neuter.

Politics
Lead, follow or get out of the way
The American public is fed up with politicians who are more interested in dragging down their political opponents than in helping America’s working families.
Congressional Republicans seem far more interested in blocking the success of a Democratic president than in solving the nation’s economic problems.
They are so fearful Democrats might get the credit, they are determined to scuttle efforts that could revive the American economy and save American jobs.
We are appalled at the lack of genuine concern for American workers by this petty, short-sighted wrecking crew. We still remember when Newt Gingrich urged Republicans to block health care reform because if they allowed it to succeed Democrats would get the credit.
America voted for an end to these petty political games, but Republicans in Congress weren’t listening. They need to be reminded they were put in Congress to serve the American people, not just to preserve their own political power base at our expense.
They need to either play a constructive role in solving our problems or get out of the way.

Get involved
Bob Dylan wrote “I’m just average, common too. The same as him and just like you.” So why do Wall Street companies get a bail out and corporate goons who failed these companies got billions in bonuses – paid by our tax money? They got billions in bonuses while the Average Joe experienced huge losses in retirement funds and while personal stock and bond values dropped like a feather in a vacuum.
Bob was wrong!
There is a class struggle in America.
Many of the rich want to get richer and they don’t care who gets hurt in the process. Republican legislators are working hard to add to our national debt in order to force the nation to make a choice between social programs or things like national security. Guess which one will win – and it won’t be the poor.
Yes Virginia, there is a class struggle in America. The middle class and the poor are being forced out. The wealthy and well connected get richer.
What can we do about it? Let your congressional members know what you think and what you want.
Be involved in the process. It’s worth your time and will affect your well being!
