When crime rate hits home

To the editor:

Seems ironic same week The Independent features a front-page article about Port Orchard crime rate (possibly) going down is the same week (while I was away from home buying groceries) someone broke into my house (Tuesday, Nov. 1 between 8:00-10:00) and stole a few items from my house.

After breaking locked latch on window, and violently removing locked door on desk cabinet, someone stole my 9mm semiautomatic handgun and a couple of boxes of ammo (also a pair of binoculars and an aluminum carrying case with telescope accessories from same room.)

Of possible concern to wider community, besides a home being burglarized, is that my house is across the street from the South Kitsap High School. And, an offhand remark by the investigating Port Orchard Police officer was that due to the small size of the window used to enter my bedroom, the thief may have been someone from the nearby high school.

In closing, while writing articles about crime rates are important, it’s just so much ink and paper when you are directly affected. At the very least, now there’s an unknown and armed individual, who knows where?

Telling husband what to write

To the editor:

Thanks Jen (“Jen’s Perspective”) for acknowledging my efforts. Life is hectic: working, taking care of kids, running a house, commuting between Yakima and Port Orchard … and telling my husband (Tim) what to think/write. (Don’t know how I do it all!)

Now that you know the real story, in the future you can direct your comments/critiques to me.
