My grandson hates homework, hence his grade point average suffers. However, he still uses his education when he wants to. He applied geometry to calculate the amount of jelly beans in a jar. He figured the volume of the jar, the volume of the jelly bean and guessed 3,745 beans and there were 3,749 so his estimate was closest to the $50 prize.
This is just one practical application of the education he is getting. Our students must compete in a shrinking world and it takes money. So here we are again without enough on our North Kitsap School District budget to do the job we want for our children. The state taxes are inadequate so we must make up the gap by a local levy. The present levy is about to expire so we must vote again to keep the same level of funds.
The election is Feb. 9 and the levy will be renewed for the next four years. The ballots were mailed this week so mark a yes and get it in the mail quickly.
